Dr. Varga Csaba magyar jogfilozófus, Pécsett nagypolgári családban született. Az általa összegyűjtött fényképeken nemcsak a család, hanem a nagyapja által alapított cég, a Varga Gyula Autókarosszéria- és Kocsigyár is megelevenedik.

A felvételen Pethő Sándor publicista, a Magyar Nemzet alapító főszerkesztője látható. Pethő Sándor sokáig történelemtanárként dolgozott, de ismertté a készülő Révai Lexikon modern magyar történelmi tárgyú szócikkei tették. Nagyobb lélegzetvételű műveket is kiadott, az 1848–49-es szabadságharcról, valamint a dualista éra legjelentősebb politikusairól. 1912-ben az Élet című folyóiratot szerkesztette. Majd a Magyarság című napilapnak munkatársa, később 1934-1938 között főszerkesztője lett. 1938-ban Hegedüs Gyulával alapítója és főszerkesztője lett a Magyar Nemzet című napilapnak. Pethő két évtizedes Horthy-korszakbeli újságírói pályafutása során „örök ellenzékiként”, a legitimista tábor híveként küzdött a bethleni konszolidáció visszásságai, majd a hazánkban is teret nyert német nemzetiszocializmus ellen. 1940 nyarán autóbaleset áldozata lett a balatonfüredi Mussolini téren, nyaki gerinctörést szenvedett. Sírja a Fiumei úti Nemzeti Sírkertben található.

Dr. Csaba Varga, a Hungarian philosopher of law, was born into an upper middle class family in Pécs. The photographs collected by him bring to life not only the family, but also the company founded by his grandfather, the Gyula Varga Car Body and Coach Factory.

The photo shows Sándor Pethő, a publicist and the founding editor-in-chief of the newspaper Magyar Nemzet. Sándor Pethő worked as a history teacher for a long time, but he was made famous by the modern Hungarian historical articles of the Révai Lexicon. He also published longer works on the War of Independence of 1848-49 and the most prominent politicians of the dualist era. In 1912, he edited the journal Élet. Then he became an employee of the daily newspaper Magyarság, and later became its editor-in-chief between 1934 and 1938. In 1938, with Gyula Hegedüs, he became the founder and editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Magyar Nemzet. During his two-decade career as a journalist in the Horthy era, Pethő fought as a “perpetual opposition”, a believer in the legitimacy camp, against the shortcomings of the Bethlen consolidation, and then against German National Socialism, which gained ground in Hungary as well. In the summer of 1940, he died in a car accident on Mussolini Square in Balatonfüred after suffering a cervical spine fracture. His tomb is located in the National Tomb Garden on Fiume Road.
