A németalföldi értékpapír börze sikerét és jelentőségét felismerve Thomas Gresham 1566-ban fogott bele a londoni tőzsde épületének építésébe, mely 1571-es elkészülte után Erzsébet királynő akaratára a Királyi börze nevet kapta. Gresham a kor szokásainak megfelelően saját költségén építtette fel az antwerpeni börze mintájára, melyért a tőzsdézőknek bérleti díjat számított. A 18. század második felében megnövekedett értékpapír forgalom miatt a 19. század első évében új külön palotába költözött a Stock Exchange-be.

The oldest London Stock Exchange 1571-1801. Recognizing the success and importance of the Dutch stock exchange, Thomas Gresham embarked on the construction of the London Stock Exchange in 1566, which, after its completion in 1571, was renamed the Royal Stock Exchange by the will of Queen Elizabeth. Gresham built it at his own expense on the model of the Antwerp Stock Exchange, for which he charged renters a rent. Due to increased business in the second half of the 18th century, it moved to a new separate palace on the Stock Exchange in the first year of the 19th century.
