Thomas Lipton angol kereskedő 1871-tő foglalkozott gyarmatáruval, többek között az akkor még igen drága tea importjával. Az árak csökkentése érdekében saját ültetvényeket vásárolt Ceylon szigetén és saját csomagolású (különböző súlyú kiszerelésben) forgalmazásba fogott, így biztosítva az alacsony árat és a kiváló minőséget. A sikeres üzletembert Viktória királynő később érdemei elismeréseképpen lovaggá ütötte. Azóta világszerte ismerik a reklámszlogent: "Direct from the tea gardens to the teapot." vagyis "Teát egyenesen az Ön teáskannájába".

The photo shows an advertisement for the Lipton-branded filter tea from the Compack Commercial Packaging Company (founded 15 August, 1950). English merchant Thomas Lipton had been dealing with colonial goods since 1871, including the import of tea, which was still very expensive at the time. In order to reduce prices, he bought his own plantations on the island of Ceylon and marketed them in his own packaging (in different-weight packages), thus ensuring a low price and excellent quality. The successful businessman was later knighted by Queen Victoria in recognition of his merits. Since then, the advertising slogan has been known worldwide: "Direct from the tea gardens to the teapot".
