1978. augusztus 24-27. Kecskeméten rendezték meg a IV. Négyes fogat világbajnokságot amelyen, 13 ország, 39 fogata indult. Az összetett versenyt Magyarország csapata nyerte. Fülöp Sándor, Bárdos György és Pap István. Az egyéniben is elsöprő magyar siker született az első helyezett Bárdos György, a második Fülöp Sándor, a harmadik Muity Ferenc lett. Különlegessége, hogy Fülöp Edingburgh hercege a Nemzetközi Lovas Szövetség Elnöke is részt vett a versenyen.

The 4th Four-in-hand world championship was held in Kecskemét from the 24th till the 27th of August, 1978 with 39 teams from 13 countries competing. The combination was won by the Hungarian team including Sándor Fülöp, György Bárdos and István Pap. Concerning the individual competition the Hungarian success was overwhelming as György Bárdos came in the first place, Sándor Fülöp came in the second and Ferenc Muity came in the third. The speciality of the championship was that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh as the president of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports participated in the competition.
