1898-ra készült el az Üllői út 135. alatt a I. Ferenc József gyalogsági laktanya, mely az I. számú honvéd gyalogezred szálláshelye lett. A főváros ingyenesen engedte át a honvédségnek a Népligettel szemben fekvő mintegy 63 ezer négyzetméternyi telkét laktanya építés céljára. A kaszárnya Benedicty József építész tervei szerint és a Neuschloss építővállalat kivitelezésében készült el 1898. április 30-án. A laktanya 13200 négyzetméter alapterületen épült, 14 pavilonrendszerű épületből állt. Három zászlóalj, valamint a központi fegyvertár befogadására szolgált. 1947-től a Honvéd Kossuth Akadémia kihelyezett akadémikus ezrede otthonául szolgált, 1957-től az Egyesített Tiszti Iskola, 1967-től pedig a Zalka Máté Katonai Műszaki Főiskola működött az egykori laktanya falai között. By 1898, the Franz Joseph I infantry barrack was completed at 135 Üllői Road, which became the accommodation of the 1st National Defence Infantry Regiment. The capital handed over about 63,000 square meters of land opposite the Népliget to the army free of charge for the construction of a barrack. The barrack was completed on 30 April, 1898, according to the plans of the architect József Benedicty and built by the construction company Neuschloss. The barrack was built on a floor area of ​​13,200 square meters and consisted of 14 pavilion-like buildings. It was used for accommodating three battalions as well as the central armoury. From 1947, it served as the home of the posted academic regiment of the Honvéd Kossuth Academy, from 1957 the United Officer's School, and from 1967 the Máté Zalka Military Technical College operated within the walls of the former barrack.
