Powell a brit hadsereg altábornagya, a cserkészet megalapítója. Könyvei közül, amelyeket afrikai évei alatt a katonai felderítésről és a felderítők képzéséről írt, sokat fiatalok is olvastak. Ezek alapján írta meg a fiatalok számára Cserkészet fiúknak című könyvét. Írás közben ötleteit a gyakorlatban is kipróbálta egy táborozáson Brownsea Islanden. A tábor 1907. augusztus 1-én kezdődött, ezt tekintik ma a cserkészet kezdetének. (wikipedia.org)

Photos were donated by Géza Baráth. Lord Baden Powell at the 5th World Scout Jamboree in the Netherlands. Powell is a Lieutenant General in the British Army and the founder of Scouting. Many of his books on military reconnaissance and scout training during his time in Africa have been read by young people. He used these books as the basis for his book Scouting for Boys. While writing, he put his ideas into practice on a camping trip to Brownsea Island. The camp started on 1 August 1907, which is now considered the beginning of Scouting.
