A Kövér család az egyik legnagyobb földbirtokos Martfűn már a 19. század közepén, tulajdonukban volt a téglagyár is. Birtokain fejlett gazdálkodás folyt, egyik családtagja országgyűlési képviselő. Leghíresebb tagja, Kövér Miklós felhagyott a családi birtok igazgatásával, és – felvéve a Mariházy nevet – színésznek állt. 1908-tól színi direktor lett Kecskeméten.

János Kövér's farm with an American windmill and machines. The family Kövér was one of the largest land owners in Martfű as of the middle of the 19th century. They owned the brick factory as well. The most famous family member: Miklós Kövér gave up managing the farm and went to become an actor - under the name Mariházy - and later became a theatre director in Kecskemét in 1908.
