SZINOPSZIS: Az öreg király megelégelte, hogy lányai minden éjjel 12 pár papucsot szaggatnak el, és nagy fizetséget ígért annak, aki rájön, hogy hol szaggatják szét lányai a papucsokat. A rejtélyt a juhászlegény oldja meg. Kilesi a lányokat, és még a pokolba is követi őket, ahol látja, hogy az ördöggel hajnalig borotvákon táncolva-mulatva kopnak el a lányok papucsai. Bizonyítékokat gyűjt, s ezeket felmutatván az öreg királynak megoldja a rejtélyt. Elnyerve ezzel a legkisebb királykisasszony kezét.
