A honvéd főparancsnok hivatala, a Magyar Királyi Honvéd Főparancsnokság 1868-ban alakult meg és állománya 1893-ig a Szent György tér 4. szám alatti Zeughaus (fegyvertári) épületben, 1893-tól 1896-ig a Dísz tér 13. szám alatti bérleményben működött. A jól ismert Dísz téri palota a II. világháború alatt megsérült, és Rákosi Mátyás a felújítás helyett rommá nyilváníttatta és elrendelte a bontását. 1962-ig fokozatosan ugyan, de a felső földszint magasságáig visszabontották az egykori neoreneszánsz palotát. Az épület ismét változások elé néz, hiszen az eredeti Kallina tervek szerint születik újjá.

Procession on Dísz Square at the Defence Headquarters building. The Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Hungarian Army, the Royal Hungarian Army Headquarters was established in 1868 and its staff operated in the Zeughaus (armoury) building at 4 Szent György Square until 1893, and from 1893 to 1896 in the leased building at 13 Dísz Square. The well-known Dísz Square Palace was damaged during World War II, and Mátyás Rákosi had it declared a ruin and ordered its demolition instead of renovation. Until 1962, the former neo-Renaissance palace was gradually demolished to the height of the upper ground floor. The building is again facing changes as it will reborn according to the original Kallina plans.
