Culture's effect on language in North-West Siberia Researchers of Uralic, Ob-Ugric and Samoyedic languages in North-West Siberia have always taken into account the the so-called pragmatic aspects and the grammatical aspects of language, i.e. the relation between extralinguistic situations and language as a set of systems - the effect of culture, organization of society and fol klore on language. M. A. Castrén, A. Reguly, B. Munkácsi, J. Pápay, K. F. KarjaIainen, H. Paasonen, A. Kannisto, K. Donner, T. Lehtisalo and others were already studiers of ethnolinguistics when this technical term was not yet in use. In this lecture 1 exarrune, continuing the traditions of uralistics, the effect of culture on the Khanty language on three areas of lingual manifestations. 1. A different way of speaking evolved between relatives, especially between father-in-Iaw and daughter-in-Iaw. The relationship of father-in-Iaw and son-inlaw is also ruled by numerous prohibitons, for example Iingual tabu. 2. In the Ob-Ugric culture lingual taboo succeeds the most consequently in the bear cult, but is also observable in the language of the hunters, as weil as the language connected to the dead and the spiritual world. They have to use other words instead the taboo words. The Ob-Ugric languages are quite inventive in the creation of new words. 3. The language of the songs also differs from the everyday language, namely the singer endeavours to keep the prosody of the song correct. Expletives promote the coincidence of text emphasis and musical emphasis. Archaic grammaticaI forms are also preserved in cultic songs.
